War and Peace: Citizen Movements in the 60s In-Person
Jeffrey Laurenti, the current chairman of the Princeton-based Coalition For Peace Action and former director of foreign policy programs at The Century Foundation, will deliver an insightful talk on the evolution of public sentiment during the Cold War. He will explore how robust support for Cold War confrontation in the 1960s transformed into public resistance against runaway arms buildups and military interventionism, leading to the rise of citizen movements that have continuously challenged the "Washington consensus." This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Lawrence Library and co-sponsored by the 60s Group and the Coalition For Peace Action.
