War and Peace: Citizen Movements in the 60s In-Person
Jeffrey Laurenti, the former executive director of policy studies at the United Nations Association of the United States (UNA-USA) and director of foreign policy programs at The Century Foundation, will deliver an interactive discussion on the evolution of public sentiment during the Cold War. He will explore how robust support for Cold War confrontation in the 1950s and early1960s transformed into public resistance against runaway arms buildups and military interventionism, leading to the rise of citizen movements that have continuously challenged the "Washington consensus." This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Lawrence Library and co-sponsored by the 60s Group.
Advanced registration is appreciated.
