Bold and Brilliant: Speech competition In-Person

This is the culmination of a dynamic public speaking program designed to help students build confidence and master essential communication skills. Participants will use hand gestures, vocal tone and enunciation to deliver powerful, engaging speeches.

  • Speeches will be primarily memorized, though students may use flashcards if they prefer.
  • Each speech will have a maximum time limit of 7 minutes.
  • The structure will follow formats used by the National Speech and Debate Association, especially regarding timing and style.

Choose one of the follow prompts:

  • Why Does Kindness Matter More than Ever Today?
  • History’s Unsung Heroes – And Why I Want to Be Like Them

The event will be led by Abhiti Dargan, a national-level high school speech competitor with extensive experience in a variety of speaking styles and tournaments. She will be joined by 2 of her fellow teammates to form a panel of judges. They will use a well-established rubric for scoring the competition. Preview the rubric here.
