Big STEAMers In-Person
Big STEAMers is a program that focuses on the five areas of STEAM; science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, all geared toward elementary-aged kids. This week's topic: Taste. In this exciting 1-hour class, our young scientists will dive into the delicious world of taste! We'll explore the five basic tastes—sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami—and learn how our tongue and brain work together to identify them. But there's a twist: we'll run a hands-on experiment to see how smell affects taste! With noses pinched and taste buds ready, students will test mystery foods and discover how much our sense of smell influences flavor. Through interactive games, group discussions, and sensory challenges, kids will leave with a better understanding of how their bodies experience the world of taste. For ages 6-11. Sponsored by the Friends of the West Windsor Library.
Registration is required prior to the event. Walk-ins are welcome as long as space and supplies are available. We recommend that you arrive 5 minutes before the program starts. If you have not arrived by the start of the program, we may give your spot to someone who is waiting. We may not be able to accommodate late arrivals. Please cancel if you are unable to attend so that your spot may be given to another. We appreciate your cooperation so we may offer a smoother flow of activities to the entire group.
