Poetry Circle: Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) In-Person

Emily Dickinson (1830–1886) was an American poet who spent her life in Amherst, Massachusetts. She rarely left her family’s property and primarily wrote poems for herself, as well as in letters to loved ones and neighbors. Many of her poems were preserved on the backs of recipes and scraps of paper. After her death, her sister Lavinia collected the poems and worked to have them published. Dickinson is now considered one of the greatest poets of all time and a pioneer of free verse and the breaking of poetic conventions.
