Big STEAMers: Heat & Friction In-Person
Join our exciting, 1-hour program for kids ages 6–11! Big STEAMers is a program that focuses on the five areas of STEAM; science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, all geared toward elementary-aged kids. This week's topic: Heat & Friction - Science in Motion!
This week, young explorers ages 6–11 will discover how heat and friction shape the world around us. Through fun experiments, playful challenges, and real‑world examples, kids will learn how rubbing, sliding, spinning, and moving objects can create warmth and change the way things behave. From racing toys to testing textures, participants will investigate how friction slows things down — and how heat speeds things up! It’s the perfect mix of movement, curiosity, and “wow, look at that!” moments. Sponsored by the Friends of the West Windsor Library.
Registration is required prior to the event. Walk-ins are welcome as long as space and supplies are available. We recommend that you arrive 5 minutes before the program starts. If you have not arrived by the start of the program, we may give your spot to someone who is waiting. We may not be able to accommodate late arrivals. Please cancel if you are unable to attend so that your spot may be given to another. We appreciate your cooperation so we may offer a smoother flow of activities to the entire group.
