Big STEAMers: Solar Chef Challenge! In-Person

Join our exciting, 1-hour program for kids ages 6–11!  Big STEAMers is a program that focuses on the five areas of STEAM; science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, all geared toward elementary-aged kids.  Get ready to experiment, explore, and make some surprising discoveries at the Mercer County Library’s West Windsor Branch.  This week's topic: Solar Chef Challenge: Cook with the Power of the Sun!

Young engineers will harness the power of sunlight to design and build their own working solar ovens using everyday materials like pizza boxes, foil, and plastic wrap. Through this bright and creative experiment, kids will explore how renewable energy, reflection, and heat absorption work together to cook food — no electricity required! Once their ovens are assembled, participants will be able to take them home test them outdoors and see how sunlight can transform simple ingredients into warm treats. It’s a fun mix of science, sustainability, and snack‑time success that shines a light on how we can use energy wisely.  Sponsored by the Friends of the West Windsor Library.

Registration is required prior to the event. Walk-ins are welcome as long as space and supplies are available. We recommend that you arrive 5 minutes before the program starts. If you have not arrived by the start of the program, we may give your spot to someone who is waiting. We may not be able to accommodate late arrivals. Please cancel if you are unable to attend so that your spot may be given to another.  We appreciate your cooperation so we may offer a smoother flow of activities to the entire group.
