Poetry Circle: Alphonse de Lamartine In-Person
The French poet Alphonse de Lamartine (1790-1869) gained recognition as a young man and set the tone for the Romantic movement in France. His emphasis on emotion and passion led to his most famous work, Le Lac (The Lake), published in 1820, being considered one of the masterpieces of French poetry. As an advocate for the people and the abolition of slavery, he was a celebrated speaker and politician. Poetry Circle friends Mark and Ariane will lead the discussion.
