Learning Native Lenape Plants Online

Join us for an engaging presentation exploring the medicinal plants of the Lenape. Discover the healing traditions of the Lenape people through the plants that still grow around us today.  Learn how Indigenous communities identified, harvested, and used native plants for healing, food, and daily life, while gaining a deeper appreciation for the rich natural and cultural heritage of our region. Presented by Chief Barbara Bluejay Michalski.

About the Presenter: Bluejay, also known as Barbara Michalski, was given the name by her grandfather, Bill Thompson, late Chief Whippoorwill of the Unalachtigo (People Near the Ocean) Tribe of the Turkey Clan. A member of the Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania, she has immersed herself in tribal activities, serving on the tribal council and as tribal secretary, while also helping educate the public through events and festivals in Lenapehoking (the Homeland of the Lenape). Most importantly, Bluejay teaches children about the history of the Lenape Nation through crafts, storytelling, and artifacts. She has also been involved in environmental causes, particularly advocating for clean water and protecting our Earth Mother. She has a vested interest in medicinal plants and continues to expand her knowledge of their uses and benefits.
